5033 _ YOGYA LEADLIGHT

Leadlight

StudioJanaFlohr. in collaboration with Studio ThoL production by Paul Plasmeijer - 2009 - glass, leadstrips - special piece

A piece designed to celebrate a 40 year wedding-anniversary.

This leadlight is made after a photograph of beautiful flowers on a beach in Yogyakarta, Indonesia, that I took in the summer of 2008.

The photograph has been edited into an abstract and pixelated image, that would be suitable to be turned into a lead-light.

In collaboration with Paul Plasmeijer, who made the piece, the colours and structures of the glass were carefully chosen to resemble the design.

The lead light has been presented in November 2009.

4003 _ SCHOOLYARD LIVING ROOM

4003 nORBERTUS

StudioJanaFlohr. in collaboration with Frederike Top produced by De Kok staalbouw - 2009 - powdercoated steel - unique piece

The Norbertus College in Roosendaal celebrates its 90th anniversary in 2009/2010, to honour this event StudioJanaFlohr. and Frederike Top were commissioned to design a new artpiece for the schoolyard.

The schools' Art Committee used words like 'dynamic', 'growing', 'the schoolyard as the domain of the students', 'colourful', 'contemporary' and 'interactive'.

In a fruitful collaboration with Frederike Top, an experimental 'schoolyard living room' was designed, with room for the students to add their own input to the design.

The shape of the furniture in the 'living room' is derived from sketch-like pen drawings, pulled into a 3-dimensional world, and eventually shaped of steel tubes like a climbing frame.

3208 _ STR@NDLEVEN KIDS ONLY - BEACHTOWERS

3208 Strandleven21

StudioJanaFlohr. for Stg Groene Honden Jong Ontwerp - 2009 - plaster, various - eventdesign

Str@ndleven21 is an initiatieve of the Museum of Zandvoort, the Province of North Holland and the municipality of Zandvoort. During several interactive events taking place at the beach and in the city-centre of Zandvoort, children between the ages of 10 and 14 years were challenged to help professional designers and artists to fill the Museum of Zandvoort.

By the end of the project, all the pieces that were made were auctioned on behalf of the educational department of the Museum.

The final interactive event took place on Saturday May 30th in sunny weather on the beach of Zandvoort. Children were working together with StudioJanaFlohr. and Stg. Groene Honden to make 'Beachtowers' build up of colored plaster shapes, that were casted in the beach sand.

3205 _ THE AMAZING GAME OF RUNNING WITH THE GREEN AND HIDING FROM THE RED

Flyer Amazing Game

StudioJanaFlohr. for Stg Groene Honden Jong Ontwerp - 2008 - balloons - eventdesign

Flyer by Angelica Consejo with the Groene Honden

Design Foundation Groene Honden thinks Dutch Design should be free of strict rules, it should be playful and in-your-face.

Therefore they decided to not have a regular exibition during the Dutch Design Week in October 2008, but instead to challenge everyone to a special game of hide-and-seek in the city centre of Eindhoven.

3204 _ COLLECTED GREENERY / GREEN ENVY

Collected Greenery

StudioJanaFlohr. for Stg Groene Honden Jong Ontwerp - 2009 - mdf, paper, various materials - exhibitiondesign / product design

Collected Greenery is a collection of green objects that has been gathered over a period of five months.
None of the exhibited pieces is without a story.
The greater part of these pieces have served their owners loyally for years and years, until eventually they went out of fashion, and, after a few years in a dusty cupboard, were shipped to the nearest thrift store.
Maybe some of the pieces were somebody’s most treasured possession, that were not recognized by surviving relatives who had to get rid of their grandmothers ‘rubbish’.
Other pieces might not have had their chance to shine yet, they were once heartfelt presents, being totally misunderstood , and thrown out immediately.

All these pieces have one thing in common: they are green.
Because of this shallow and apparently random feature the objects form a new family that is worthy of a second chance in the spotlight as part of ‘Collected Greenery’

6002 _ PIT INDUSTRY

6002 Factory Greenhouse

StudioJanaFlohr. in collaboration with Frederike Top for Tuttobene - 2008 - glass, earthenware - production in development

These small factory-shaped greenhouses were designed together with Frederike Top, for the Small Space Design Race by Tuttobene.
The initial design was made during the Dutch Design Week, in the ten minutes that stood for it.

With these seed-factories we invite people to re-use the seeds of the fruits and vegetables they eat and grow their own fruits in their window-sill.
We hope to encourage more awareness, especially with children, that vegetables and fruits can be home-grown and do not have to be bought in the supermarket, and that it is not natural for, for example strawberries, to be available in mid-winter

For more information please visit the website of Tuttobene.

3202 _ LIFESIZE TETRIS / STR@NDLEVEN21

3202 Strandleven Tetris

StudioJanaFlohr. together with Sam van Veluw for Stg Groene Honden Jong Ontwerp - 2008 - sailcloth, sand - to be ordered.

Str@ndleven21 2008 was initialized jointly by the Municipality of Zandvoort, the district of Noord Holland and the ‘Zandvoorts Museum’. Spread over ten beach clubs at the North Sea Coast, visitors were invited to take a look at the works of several young artists. The Groene Honden were invited to exhibit in three beach clubs situated in Zandvoort. The interactive and playful installations were based on the elements air, earth and light.

Beach Club ‘Bruxelles aan zee’ had an installation inspired by the element ‘earth’ that was both playful and practical. Out of bright-coloured, sturdy sand bags, a life-size game of Tetris could be played on the beach, or, more leisurely, the bags could be used as elements to sit or lay on.

For more information please check the website of Stg Groene Honden, Jong Ontwerp.

5021 _ HOME IS WHERE THE HEART IS

5021 Home is where the Heart is #01

StudioJanaFlohr. - 2007 - polystyrene, paper, epoxy - made to measure / unique pieces

‘Home is where the heart is’ is a cabinet that holds space for all the objects that make a person feel at home.

On one hand it can be seen as a modern-day shrine, with his attractive shape and enough room to show of all of your most prized possessions.

Besides that it offers a practical solution for moving.
This cabinet is more than a cupboard, it is a portable home.
It might hold some of the things you need practically, but more importantly, it holds the essence of your home.
After all, a home is not defined by its walls, but by its contents.

If you were to move, you can just fold in the cabinet and take it with you to a new empty living space.

The cabinet’s light but sturdy innovative material and its wheels make travelling with it a pleasure.

Once you are in your new house you unfold the cabinet and start feeling at home amongst all the things you hold dear.

5020 _ GYPSY CABINETS

5020 gypsy cabinets

StudioJanaFlohr. - 2006 - pine wood, birch wood - study pieces

Furniture travels just as much as people do.
And when furniture is moved, usually large wooden crates are used.

I decided to design cabinets that are always ready to be moved.
Made from the crates that would otherwise be built around them, these cupboards cut out a phase in the process of shipment.

Like gypsies, the cabinets are always ready to move on, to new environments and adventures, and always take all their possessions with them.

5004 _ PUPPETFACE

5004 minime puppet

StudioJanaFlohr. - 2002 - cotton, rice, transferpaper - Art piece

People tend to strive for perfection, in their work, their love life, their appearance.
But how desirable, if even possible, is it to achieve that goal?

In a search for a perfect face, I edited pictures of myself to the same proportions dolls have.
The result was not so much beautiful as it was scary and lifeless.

The different faces were printed on dummy-shaped dolls and scattered around the places I used to visit.

Even though the dolls’ faces turned out to be quite sinister and alien-like, seeing the dolls in these hostile environments made me care for them, and I decided to keep them save in my possession as a constant reminder that perfection is not worth striving for and there is no place in the real world where perfection will ever be in his place, for perfection is static and cannot exist in a dynamic environment.
