_ March.10.2010 _ Slimming down and broadening the view.

As you might notice there have been quite some changes to this website. Suddenly a lot of the projects previously featured went 'missing', as did the 'for sale' section.

Well, of course they did not actually go missing, but they moved.

From last month I have been working on a new website called 'thedriftwood.nl', from now on that will be the place to present my product- and jewellery designs, while this 'Janaflohr' website focusses more on public space, conceptual event design and art projects.

Two fresh starts, and two distinct stories, hopefully both equally prosperous.

Check it out:

Krablegs

The beauty of it, it would be a shame to let it go to waste....

_ January.29.2010 _ New new new!

Pillowcase

New projects have been added.

A lot of the projects featured are still very much work in progress.

I think it is interesting to showcase the process that is involved with designing a new piece, and give you insight in the way I work.

Check out here.

_ January.19.2010 _ A little sunshine...

Today a letter came, not a very important letter -or a very interesting one, for that matter-, but with all the digital and informal messaging back and forth nowadays I just cherish the moments when I get actual old-fashioned pigeon-involved mail.

.It is even better to get a letter from a Far Away Country (ehm.. Germany) that addresses me as 'Mrs.' (little do they know), then my full name, followed by my function:

Letter Messe

Can you read what is written down on the 'function'-line?

Wait, let me enlarge it a bit:

Close up Letter Messe

Now do you see what I mean?

The letter is actually addressed to 'Jana Flohr, Dingenzoeker / Ontwerper' (in English: Thingseeker -which is a very ugly word, it's much better in Dutch- / Designer

Which means I can now officially say that I actually became a 'Dingenzoeker'.

Who knew it would ever be used as a real title.

It is the last thing I expected when I confided to a friend in primary school that I would want to become a 'Dingenzoeker' after finishing school.

At the time I fantasized about living in a shed and collecting discarded items in the streets... Wait, another occupation comes to mind... Maybe a better word would be (to give it some allure) 'Vagabond'?

But, as it always happens in movies like this, it all worked out, my fascination for 'society left-overs' has been all-important for many of my previous pieces, and will probably stay one of the main inspirations as a designer.

Crazy how small things like this can light up a dark and gloomy January day.

By the way, the actual content of the letter was not that interesting: an invitation to attent the award ceremony of the Deutsche Designpreis in Frankfurt. A bit too far to cycle....

_ January.15.2010 _ New new new

Last week I was visited by Henny van Belkom, a free-lance interior photographer. He took photographs of my house and workshop, that will hopefully be published in a Dutch magazine soon.

He called me December 18th, which left me with three weeks (and those included all the social commitments involved with the Holidays) to make my house magazine-proof. I made it into a project, hoping there will be a nice publication soon.

Below some snapshots (taken by me) of my newly decorated house and workshop. More images can be found here.

JewelleryBedroomWorkshop

Today Henny e-mailed me that It might take a couple of weeks before there is more news about the possible publication, he also e-mailed that he will send me his professional photographs soon. They will be much better than the ones that are currently on this website, so I hope I will be able to show them to you soon.

Will be in touch as soon as I know more!

_ December.03.2009 _ Publication Studio ThoL

It will not be long before new projects will be added.

Last Sunday the 5033 40-years leaded light ('glas in lood') has been presented, we are now waiting for an opportunity to photograph the piece to put in this website.

For this project I have -once again- and to our mutual contentment collaborated with Studio ThoL, who is featured in this months 'Eigen Huis & Interieur' (December 2009).

Definitely worth checking out!

_ November.22.2009 _ Welcome to my new website # 02

Over the last two years, I have been working part-time at a design studio in Rotterdam, and divided my time between there and my workshop in Amsterdam.

Starting from January 1st 2010 StudioJanaFlohr. will have full priority, as I will not prolong my contract in Rotterdam.

It is quite scary to give up the security of a regular income, not to mention to give up a job in such a creative atmosphere. But from the moment the decision was made, I know it is the right one, and I feel full of energy to go for it and really establish StudioJanaFlohr..

Currently working on this new web-site. It is a lot of work to try and make sure everything looks effortless and logical, hopefully I am succeeding.

Of course I am always open for pointers, so do not hesitate to get in touch by e-mail.
